Timeline PhotosTenko, the BBC One drama serial about women interned by the Japanese during the World War Two, began today in 1981. The ensemble cast included Stephanie Beacham, Ann Bell, Stephanie Cole, Louise Jameson and Patricia Lawrence. The programme ran for three series, plus a one-off sequel, Tenko Reunion.

While most previous wartime dramas had predominantly featured men, Tenko gave great opportunities for female actors in a drama about a lesser-known aspect of the conflict.
